Mortdale Men’s Shed has received $9000 in funding under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme, announced David Coleman, the Federal Member for Banks.
The group will use the $9000 to help cover the costs of building a new shed at their Mortdale premises. Construction has already started on the project, with members of the group building the facility themselves.
Mr Coleman recently met with members of the Men’s Shed to discuss how the funding will benefit the organisation.
“It was great to catch-up with some of the members of Mortdale Men’s Shed and see how construction is going on the new shed,” Mr Coleman said. “I am really pleased that we have been able to provide this money.”
The Secretary of Mortdale Men’s Shed Greg Moar, has described the Stronger Communities program funding as a great assistance in the development of their new shed.
“This shed and the attention it has received, is allowing us to welcome new members, and we are now open 3 days a week to accommodate the increase it has generated,” Mr Moar said.
“We are now able to reach out to schools and retired men, who are looking for companionship and working with their hands and minds again.”
“We look forward to seeing completion of our current project, and welcoming the increasing awareness of our group located at the rear of 25 Cook Street Mortdale.”
