At a ceremony held on December 3, Doris Poon was announced as the winner of the Banks Volunteer of the Year Award. The Award was established in 2015 and recognises outstanding achievement in the community. More than 60 people were nominated for the Award this year.
Doris was named the winner of the Award for her outstanding efforts during the pandemic. During this difficult time, she has reached out to elderly members of the Chinese community and delivered gifts and essential items to people who would otherwise be isolated. She has done this work through her church, St George’s Anglican in Hurstville.
“I was very pleased to present Doris with the Award,” David Coleman, Federal Member for Banks said.
“She has shown great commitment to the local community during the pandemic, with many people benefiting from her dedicated support.”
