DAVID HOSTS SPORTS FORUM WITH SPORTS MINISTER

David Coleman MP, Federal Member for Banks invited the Minister for Sport, the Hon. Sussan Ley MP, to the Banks electorate for a roundtable discussion with local sporting groups.

The Forum, held at Hurstville Aquatic Centre, gave local sporting groups the opportunity to raise important matters with the Minister for Sport.

“It was great to have the Minister in Hurstville to meet with local sporting groups. We discussed the proposed upgrade of Penshurst Park, the Sporting Schools Program and the Local Sporting Champions initiative”, Mr Coleman said.

“We had a great discussion about the Penshurst Park upgrade, which is currently in community consultation stage. The upgrade to the Park will benefit local sporting organisations and act as a sporting and recreational hub for the local area”.

More than 40 representatives from local sporting organisations attended the meeting.

Mr Coleman emphasised the importance of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions Grant, which provides financial assistance to young sportspeople to go towards travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment costs when competing in state or regional championships.

The Government’s new Sporting Schools Program was also discussed. The Sporting Schools program offers up to three terms of sporting activity for school children. There will be more than 30 sports for schools to choose from and games can be run before, during or after school

“The Sporting Schools Program is aimed at making sport more accessible within local communities. This is important in order to make sure more kids are playing sport”, Minister Ley said.
