In the last month, many households across Picnic Point, Panania, Padstow, Revesby and East Hills have received material from Airservices Australia detailing a proposal for a new flight path from Bankstown Airport.
The material refers to proposed changes to increase the number of planes flying over airspace to the southeast of Bankstown Airport. Currently planes fly north and northwest from the airport.
The proposed changes would see many more flights going over the southeastern corridor. Suburbs such as Picnic Point, Panania, Padstow, Revesby and East Hills are directly southeast of the airport and would experience a significant increase in noise.
David Coleman, the Federal Member for Banks, said the proposed changes should not go ahead.
“This proposed increase in aircrafts flying over our community is unacceptable,” Mr Coleman said.
“The Federal Government controls the airspace in Australia. They need to ensure that there is not an increase in the number of planes flying over suburbs to the southeast of Bankstown Airport.”
“If this plan goes ahead, it could have a very negative impact on our community.”
